Exercising After Baby

I'm sure I've mentioned here before that exercise is a big part of my life. A few years ago, I had gotten really into running and other cardio workouts at the gym. When we started trying to get pregnant, I was advised to tone down the workouts to moderate intensity. During pregnancy, I was advised not to get my heart rate up too high and keep the workouts to low-moderate intensity.. oddly, high intensity exercise is one of the things I missed the most during pregnancy! I use exercise as a stress reliever and i really missed that release. I am happy to say that I've been cleared for high intensity exercise again and it feels amazing!

A few weeks ago I ordered the Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitor, and I love it! (Unfortunately this is not a sponsored post, by the way. I paid full price for it, and it was worth it!). It monitors your heart rate during a workout and lets you know when you're in your target heart rate zone. It tracks the duration of the workout and the amount of calories burned, which is great. The heart rate monitor is actually a strap worn around your chest, and the watch displays the information.

We have a great neighborhood for walks/jogs because there are sidewalks and hills. I love popping the baby into the stroller and trekking around, speed walking up hills and intermittently jogging to keep my heart rate up. If you've never pushed a 13 lb baby in a stroller with a diaper bag and junk you picked up from Walgreens up a hill.. well, it's a pretty good workout!

So, if you're into working out, I would certainly recommend getting a heart rate monitor. It helps you stay motivated and accountable during your workout, for me at least!

Hope you have a great weekend!

  1. That watch looks real fancy. Victor recently got something like that and it clips onto his shoes and syncs with his phone and i'm like "this is too intense for me," But it's nice to see you getting back to what you love! Wait till Eden is older and she can exercise with you!

  2. I love it! I'm trying to get into the groove of working out with my little girl. We do 2 mile walks around the neighborhood (not quite up to the jogging speed like you!) and you're right--pushing a stroller with a 17 lb baby (like mine!) is quite the workout. Nothing is quite like it.

    Happy jogging!
