Documenting Thoughts

So I missed A Taste of Vintage on Thursday.. After I had just posted about actually going to the whole thing this year! A few hours after I posted that on Tuesday, I started feeling light headed. That isn't uncommon with this pregnancy thing so I figured if I laid down for a few hours it would get better. Thank goodness my boss had given me the day off since we had a big work event on Monday.

Well, one thing led to another and by 3am I had gotten sick about 12 times and my whole body hurt. I realized that it must be more than just pregnancy nausea. Reed pulled up my symptoms on WebMD - classic stomach flu. I haven't had the stomach flu (or really any serious illness) since 2005, so I was really hoping to go a straight 10 years.

The doctor said it was totally normal and a large number of pregnant women get the stomach flu, often times more than once! (Dang.) It makes sense, our bodies and immune systems are more focused on growing a tiny human than fighting off germs. The sickness held on all through Wednesday and on Thursday I was feeling better, but still.. not good.

Anyway, now I am taking precautions and forcing myself to eat better. So far, I've been craving straight comfort foods. Mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese.. and dumb things from my childhood like toaster strudels and Yoo-hoo. Basically carbs and crap. I guess I figured my pre-natal vitamin and a few occasional green things during the week would keep everyone happy.

I used to be a big green smoothie, dark leafy green, all-around vegetable lover. I'm going to ease my way back into healthier eating by eating more fruit and also vegetable soup. Reed bought a crate of clementines and I've been loving those. As for the soup, I figure if I dump a bunch of chopped vegetables in the crock pot with some veggie stock and maybe add some noodles, I can disguise the vegetables as comfort food.

I've got to take better care of this baby and myself.

Anyway, tomorrow I'll be 14 weeks and baby will be the size of a lemon! Dear God, let the baby be ok. I don't go back for another ultrasound until December 12th. The doctors weren't worried about the baby in regard to my stomach flu, but worrying is kind of in the job description as soon as you have a positive pregnancy test.

  1. I'm sure everything is fine and I hope to see you and your stomach soon! And you better start eating better or your baby will be a junk food junkie. And for the record, veggie broth + veggies + Quorn chicken (my new fav veg brand) + egg noodles = best comfort food. I've had it about three times this "winter" already. I'm not sure what kinds of medicines you can take being pregnant and all, but I recently discovered elderberry syrup and it knocked my sickness out in a day! Hope you are feeling better, Rachel!

  2. Hopefully you can stop worrying soon; I remember what that is like when it's early on. It's hard not to worry up until you have actually birthed a healthy baby, haha!
