Akron-Area Shop Local Gift Guide

As you know, I am all about buying many of my own belongings second hand. From clothing to decorations to most of my pets, we're a thrifty type family (usually anyway..). I never feel (too) guilty about buying new, however, when it comes from a locally owned small business.

When it comes to buying gifts - shopping from locally owned shops is a must do for us. Here are some of my favorite shops to check out when stocking up on Christmas gifts in the Akron-area this year:

A shop-local guide for Akron would not be complete without my favorite little boutique, NOTO. It's such a staple around here that it has it's own label, scroll through the posts including NOTO here. I have gotten so many gifts for my sisters or girlfriends here and they are always a hit. The only problem is that it's nearly impossible not to walk out with something for yourself too. <Beautiful patterned dress available at NOTO now pictured above, from the NOTO website>

Toony Jewelry - Barbara is an Akron native and she is immensely talented in the art of jewelry making! She was at the 330 Swap & Shop we hosted back in May and I also got one of my favorite necklaces ever from her at last year's Crafty Mart.

The Market Path in Highland Square is an awesome Fair Trade establishment that sells beautiful jewelry, soaps, pottery, purses and satchels, tapestries and all around great, unique gifts! <Pictured Above from their website here>

Little Birdie Design Studio - Tori is also extremely talented and makes some fabulous hand-knit cowl neck scarves and wraps. She even has items for men and dogs - definitely worth checking out! <Pictured Above>

Rubber City Clothing - At one of the recent Crafty Mart's, Jessica and I wondered into RCC and I got an awesome t-shirt for Harvey <Pictured Above>. I have my eye on this 330-hoodie for this winter.

Revival - another Akron Boutique where they have awesome Vintage goods at good prices. Last year I got an amazing Vintage dress and bracelet <Pictured Above> from Revival that I love!

Square Records - ever since I gave R a record player for his birthday in September, stopping in Square Records is one of our favorite activities. With a variety of prices and items available, it's definitely worth checking out for any music lover.

The Grey Colt - this shop is actually in the downtown Hudson area and while I'm not a huge fan of some of things about Hudson (I'm allowed to say that, I grew up there), this place is high quality. There are always unique and one-of-a-kind pieces.

Fine & Dandy Vintage by Mandy Making Nice in the Midwest. Mandy is from Canton which is really close to Akron. If you  haven't checked out her shop and blog, you need to!

Olive My Heart in Hudson has the best Gourmet Olive Oils and Balsamic Vinegars I've ever tasted. These make such great gifts for any cooking enthusiasts - I have so many flavors that I love using. My most recent favorite is the Cinnamon Apple Pear Balsamic Vinaigrette. I make it into a salad dressing or toss it with vegetables and roast them up.. it's delicious! Back in July, Reed and I had the opportunity to attend a special Bloggers evening here, as I wrote about here. <Pictured Above>

I hope you'll consider shopping local this Christmas season!
