How to get a 99 Cent Smokey Eye

I totally hit the jackpot yesterday - as far as make up goes. My make-up philosophy is pretty much identical to my wardrobe philosophy. Buy cheap so you can buy a lot .. with a few exceptions for some expensive splurges (i.e: bare minerals warmth bronzer (omg) or Coach boots (I don't actually own any of these.. yet.) So last night I was in Walgreens picking up some photos and I remembered our friend Charlotte (check her out.. she's got great make up tips!) telling us about some great deals she scored at Walgreens recently in the make-up department. I figured it was worth a look.. and I was exactly right! Wet & Wild stuff on sale for 69 cents!

I got all of these fun items:

I know W&W may not be the best quality - but I love stocking up on some of the fun colors they offer.. and last night was no exception. All of those items above for 69 cents each.. very nice!

So because I'm really not feeling an outfit post today (and because I still have to pick an outfit for our Wear*it Wednesday shoot tonight) I decided to let you in on party of my morning routine this morning - specifically, the smokey eye.

But first.. I have to tell you I tried another product this morning I've seen mentioned on a few other blogs.

Suave dry shampoo - so far, I love it! It smells kind of pineappley and makes me feel like I don't have to wash my hair every morning. Today.. I didn't feel like washing my hair.

So.. let me show you how to achieve a very simple smokey eye. Many of you probably already use this trick.. but maybe for some it's something you haven't though about so will be helpful. The first thing you need is some eyeliner - I use wet & wild black eyeliner pencil.. this one was 99 cents but if you act fast you may be able to one up for 69 cents!

You know those times you use eye shadow and a few hours later it's practically disappeared? I was discussing this with a friend recently so I know it's not just me. The reason I started using a pencil instead of eye shadow is because it stays on until you want it off.

You also want to have a good sharpener and keep it sharp - as you can see mine is used a lot:

So start with some mascara on the top and a little on the bottom:

So.. the first thing you do is pull the corner of your eyelid and make a line along your your lash line. You want to make it pretty thick - and don't worry if you don't hit right along the bottom, we're going to smudge it anyway.

The next thing you'll need is a Q-tip.

Use the Q-tip to smudge the eyeliner and spread it out - making it look like eye shadow.

After you smudge it, you may want to add another thin line along your lash line.. depending on how dramatic you want your eyes to look.

Another favorite product are these Almay make-up remover pads.. they are so handy!

Have them ready because a lot of times you'll get eyeliner in the corners or under your eyes where you don't want it.

I suggest a lighter lip color when doing a smokey eye - something light and sheer or glossy is all you need. I picked this Wet & Wild one up for 69 cents yesterday - it doesn't have a name except for 545A.

 And you're done!

A little bit goes a long way for 99 cents!

Sorry my pictures aren't the best quality.. I had to use the self timer. Unfortunately the husband has this pesky thing called a 9-5 (actually 8-5.. why do they say 9-5?) and can't be there to document my make-up routine.

Hope I gave you an idea of how to use cheap products for easy and long lasting results!
