Good Beer Sunday: Winter Solstice
I am so excited right now. I thought I had missed my favorite seasonal beer - Winter Solstice from Indigo Imp Brewery. The husband got the last 6-pack at Heinen's earlier (yay!). It's got such a rich wintery flavor - an amazing mix of hops, cinnamon, hints of orange accents and malt flavor. The one I'm sipping on now could definitely be described as almost creamy too.. I didn't remember it that way so it's a nice surprise. I'm sure that sounds odd for a beer but for a spicy wintery beer it's perfection.
If you're from a geographical area that has Giant Eagle Grocery stores you've heard of food perks. Basically, you shop enough to gain food perks and the most perks you can get equals 20% off. We save up our perks until we get the full 20% and do our "big" shop. We try to practically empty the fridge and cupboards in the week before the big shop. That's why I didn't try a new recipe last week - no buying groceries the week before the big shop! Big shop day finally came today - the most you can spend is $300. We were determined to spend $300 to get the full $60 discount. We stock up on items we go through a lot of (cat food, club soda, vitamin water, stir fry vegetables, chicken broth, chai tea, beans, etc. etc.). We start right off the bat with 2 carts and divide up with our lists.. big shop day means business! Checkout is a little awkward but it's all worth it when $60 is taken off your total and you don't have to shop for anything but produce for the next couple of weeks. I have a fun recipe for cheese fondue I'm going to try this week.
I also have a song to suggest this Sunday. Ray LaMontagne & the Pariah Dogs : Beg, Steal or Borrow. It was actually nominated for a Grammy: "Best Song of the Year this year. It's from his album that came out in August: 'God Willin' and the Creek Don't Rise' . Good song!
Hope you had a lovely weekend!
