Good Beer Sunday

The Mr. and I are both big fans of beer. At the risk of sounding snobby, I'm not referring to your run of the mill collegey beers, I mean good beer. I'm also not talking about multiple beers per night or getting buzzy. I'm talking about having a beer while you cook dinner or relax after work, to savor the flavor. I don't even like to enjoy them with dinner, as that interferes with the taste. So, for a good few months there we were stocking good beer regularly. I'm talking a pack of Golden Monkey and Great Lakes Holy Moses (summer only) on a typical week. Every once in awhile throw in some Hop Devil, Blue Moon, GL Dortmunder and ahh favorite: Indigo Imp Winter Solstice (winter only). Needless to say, this habit got expensive. It also felt a little counter-productive to try to hit the gym 3+ times per week while hastily consuming empty (albeit delicious and comforting) calories. So we stopped. Cold turkey. No more buying 'good' beer.. except for parties or other special occasions. I do, however, continue to stock red wine. Don't judge - it's for the antioxidants.

As we stopped at the store for some weekend grocery essentials, the clever husband has an idea. A fantastic idea. Good Beer Sundays. Once a week we'll get a good sized bottle to share (about 1 beer each, maybe a little more). I'm telling you, smart. I like the idea of trying something new and keeping a record (here) of how we liked it. Sunday evenings are the perfect time to enjoy a good beer too - I like to get a head start on cooking for the week and pre-chop mushrooms, green peppers, onions, etc., make a batch of brown rice or quinoa, whole wheat pasta. It makes those days you just don't feel like cooking or have limited cooking time so much easier and less stressful. We also like to make hummus and wheat pita chips to snack on throughout the week too. So healthy right? Funny we will do all that and still have that carton of mint chocolate chip ice cream in the fridge - compromising dessert isn't really an option. Anyway, back to the story.

Today we picked out the Hippie I.P.A. from Buckeye Brewing Co:


I can easily say I thoroughly enjoyed this beer. I was afraid it would be too sweet for the husband, but he also enjoyed it. It had a hint of orangey citrus and just the right about of hops and malt. I would definitely get it again! Plus, how fun is the name? 

In other news for Sunday, we finally got to World Market to get our sushi supplies! Got the Nori (seaweed) paper and bamboo rolling mat. Who's excited for Sushi Tuesday!?
